Inspiring Celebration Honors 'Champions of Hope' in the Fight Against Cancer

DAYTON, OH (AUGUST 21, 2012) - Champions of Hope, a moving and poignant award ceremony, will take place at Miami Valley Hospital next month, saluting and celebrating four inspiring individuals for their achievements in the battle against cancer.

Selected by a committee composed of community volunteers and area clinicians in conjunction with the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation, the honorees include a unique Caregiver, Teresa Kramer, RDCS of Beavercreek; a courageous Survivor, Judy Kalthoff, of Kettering; an extraordinary Person of Inspiration, Hank Deneski, of Union; and an outstanding Medical Professional, Cass Swank, BS, RN, of Kettering.

“The evening promises to be an emotional and heartfelt celebration of four remarkable people who will be introduced through video profiles followed by an award presentation for each recipient,” says Wendy Scholl, chair of the Champions of Hope committee and Oakwood resident.

Scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at Miami Valley Hospital, the event begins with a reception starting at 5:30 p.m. followed by a formal program at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go toward enhancing the environment of comfort and caring for patients who will be treated at the new Comprehensive Cancer Center being built at Miami Valley Hospital South.

“While treatment and technology are vital elements in the fight against cancer, the most important components remain the unyielding optimism and unflinching determination that are embodied in our Champions of Hope,” says Jenny Lewis, president of the Miami valley Hospital Foundation.

Major sponsors for the event are Hospice of Dayton, and Tweedy, Browne Company, LLC.

Reserved seating is available at $65 per person. For those who cannot attend the event but would like to make a donation, Champions of Hope is providing an opportunity to honor a loved one who has battled cancer. A floral tribute will be displayed at the event and honorees will be recognized in the program.
