MVH Nursing Earns Magnet Status Re-designation

Dayton, OH, December 19, 2013 – Miami Valley Hospital has once again earned Magnet Status for nursing excellence. The award was announced this week by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.

This marks Miami Valley’s third, four-year term with Magnet distinction, an honor first awarded to the hospital by the ANCC in 2004.

A Magnet certification recognizes that the nursing staff of the hospital meets high standards of patient care, nursing excellence, and innovations in professional nursing practice.  The program is based on quality indicators and standards of nursing practice. Additionally, hospitals applying for this recognition must provide an environment that empowers nurses, values their contributions and supports nursing leadership.

"I am so proud of the healthcare team at Miami Valley Hospital. Our dedicated nurses, physicians, caregivers and hospital staff collaborate every day to provide the highest level of quality, service and experience to our customers,” says Dr. Sylvain Trepanier, System Vice-President & Chief Nursing Officer.

"Upholding the highest standards of nursing has always been our proud tradition at Miami Valley. Every day, our patients share with us how our nurses make a difference in their lives, and it is this consistent delivery of high quality care that says to our patients: no matter where you are within our hospital you are being cared for by the very best."

According to the ANCC, Magnet hospitals consistently deliver better patient outcomes than non-Magnet hospitals.  Magnet hospitals also report higher nurse retention, recruitment, and job satisfaction rates.

Miami Valley Hospital was the first hospital in the Dayton area to receive magnet status.
