Awards and Accreditations
Miami Valley Hospital continually strives to provide the finest health care services to our community. We are proud to have received prestigious recognition and certifications.
Physician and Nurse Cancer Certifications
The Miami Valley Hospital Cancer Program has physicians who are board-certified in all specialties. The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has also accredited our Cancer Program.
Many oncology nurses at Miami Valley Hospital have achieved the national certification of “oncology-certified nurse.” Certification is a voluntary process. It signifies a nurse has developed specialty knowledge beyond the entry level. Oncology Certified Nurses have met or exceeded requirements for practice in cancer care, have completed education in oncology nursing and have tested knowledge of the specialty.
Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation
The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has accredited the Cancer Program at Miami Valley Hospital. We’re proud that The Commission on Cancer has given us continuous approval since September 1965.

- Comprehensive care, including a range of cutting-edge services and
- A multispecialty team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
- Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
- A cancer registry that collects data on type and stage of cancers, treatment results and offers lifelong patient follow-up
- Ongoing monitoring and improvement of care
- Quality care close to home
Magnet Hospital Certification
The American Nurses Credentialing Center bestowed upon Miami Valley Hospital its Magnet certification in 2004. Magnet hospitals are excellent places for nurses to work. At that time, MVH was the first hospital in Dayton, the fifth in Ohio and one of only 115 hospitals nationwide to receive such a prestigious distinction of outstanding nursing practices. MVH earned a re-certification in 2008 and 2013. Only five percent of hospitals across the United States have achieved magnet status. An even smaller percentage of hospitals have earned re-designation.
