What the Scan Does
PET/CT Imaging is a specialized medical imaging diagnostic tool by which the biologic functions are able to be imaged. By using a small amount of biologic marker, the PET scan can assess the abnormal glucose metabolism in the body. This change in the metabolism may be seen before a physical change can be seen on CT or MRI scans.
It is used in these areas:
- Oncology – locations of the tumor and the extent of tumor growth.
- Neurology– to aid in diagnosing of Alzheimer’s, dementia, stroke, brain tumors and seizures.
