Miami Valley Hospital operates multiple emergency centers in Southwest Ohio.

To help meet the unique needs of seniors, our emergency centers have all achieved Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation. This distinction means we provide the necessary expertise, equipment and personnel to ensure optimal care for older adults.

Miami Valley Hospital’s Shaw Emergency and Trauma Center

Our largest emergency room cares for more than 90,000 visitors a year. The 72-bed emergency department offers private rooms for all patients. A pod concept brings caregivers closer to you.

Onsite medical imaging and a dedicated stat lab are available 24 hours a day for immediate testing and results.

If needed, immediate access to specialty centers is available, including:

Regional Adult Burn Center Open since 1975, the burn center is one of only six adult burn centers in Ohio, and the only one in Dayton. Burn Center specialists provide a wide range of burn treatment services, including inpatient care for larger, more complex injuries and treatment for less severe injuries in an outpatient clinic. The 10-bed inpatient burn center provides:

  • A special ventilation system to control possible infections
  • Special heat controls built into each room to maintain each patient’s body temperature
  • Treatment rooms equipped with the latest technology
  • Access to the newest treatments, including bioengineered skin substitutes      

Level I Trauma Center The trauma center delivers the highest level or care for the most serious traumatic injuries.

Miami Valley Hospital South, Centerville

The 23-bed emergency department at Miami Valley Hospital South provides the same level of emergency care you receive at the Miami Valley Hospital main campus. This full-service emergency room sees more than 34,000 patients a year and offers:

  • Level III Trauma Center with board-certified emergency physicians who also staff the Level I Trauma Center at Miami Valley Hospital
  • Care for minor to severe injuries, including heart attack, stroke, and trauma
  • A CareFlight heliport and on-site Mobile Intensive Care Unit
  • Access to the TeleStroke Network
  • Geriatric Emergency Center Accreditation with specialized care and senior-friendly equipment for older adults
  • Onsite imaging and lab services
