Center of Excellence
The Orthopedic Spine Center is a designated Center of Excellence and is dedicated to providing patients, skill, experience, and comprehensive care and technology. As one of the area’s largest orthopedics program and the only Level I Trauma Center in the region, the specialists of our joint and spine center are accustomed to dealing with complex and unusual conditions. We have more experience in more kinds of orthopedic cases, and our team is on duty every minute of every day.
Our center which has two floors dedicated to orthopedic and spine care. The center has 72 private inpatient rooms for those that are undergoing spine or joint surgery. These spacious patient rooms comfortably accommodate bulky rehabilitation equipment.
An 865-square-foot physical therapy area is conveniently located in the center for optimum rehabilitation and recovery.
All rooms are designed so that physicians, nurses, and support services deliver the personal care each patient needs, and provides an environment of comfort for both patients and visitors.
When it comes to condition or injuries of the spine, Miami Valley Hospital offers the skill, experience, and technology patients deserve and expect. Whether it’s a spinal injury caused by trauma or a degenerative condition, our professional team is able to treat spinal conditions, both surgically and with medical devices.
Surgery Isn’t Always Needed
Not all conditions affecting the spine require surgery. At Miami Valley Hospital, we first evaluate each patient on an individual basis and attempt non-surgical options, such as physical therapy and pain medications. We then evaluate the patient’s response to non-surgical treatment to determine if surgery is necessary.
Neck Fracture Procedures
Treatment of spine fractures depends on the degree of fracture and where the fracture is located. If a neck fracture is stable (non-displaced), the patient may be placed in an Aspen collar. If the fracture is unstable (complex), the patient may need surgery for Halo traction placement, or have surgical stabilization.
Spinal fusion is a surgical procedure used to correct problems with the small bones of the spine. The basic idea is to fuse together the painful vertebrae so that they heal together into a single, solid bone.

The Neurointeventional program at Miami Valley Hospital is a 24/7, high-acuity neuro intensive care unit. Our neurointerventional specialists use Minimally-invasive technologies to treat patients with vascular problems due to brain, spinal cord, head or neck disorders.
