Miami Valley Hospital was the first hospital in the Dayton area to perform robotic surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System. With the newest system, Miami Valley Hospital surgeons offer a minimally-invasive option for complex surgical procedures.
Leading with Advanced Technology
Miami Valley Hospital has extended its leadership in minimally-invasive surgery through the addition of a fourth surgical robotic system. Miami Valley Hospital has four da Vinci Si HD systems, giving surgeons enhanced, high-definition three-dimensional vision and a dual-console capability to support training.
Precise Control for Complex Operations
With robotic surgery, tiny mechanical arms are inserted into the patient through very small incisions. The surgeon controls the robot’s movements at a control console. The robot translates the surgeon's hand, wrist, and finger movements into corresponding micro-movements of the instrument tip. Similar movements also control a camera to see inside the patient's body. A surgical team at the patient’s side supervises the robotic arms.
The da Vinci® Surgical System allows surgeons to do complex operations such as prostatectomies, hysterectomies, myomectomies, and valve repair.
This system is the only commercially available technology that provides surgeons with:
- Bright, crisp, high-resolution image
- Immersive view of the surgical field
- Intuitive control, range of motion, and fine tissue manipulation capability
- Magnification of the surgical area by 10 times
- Revolutionary true-to-life three-dimensional vision
Common Uses for Robotic Surgery
Some conditions that can be treated with robotic surgery include:
Benefits of Robotic Surgery
For most patients, our robotic surgery program offers the following benefits:
- Less blood loss
- Less pain
- Less risk of infection
- Less scarring
- Quicker return to normal routine
- Shorter hospital stay
- Shorter recovery time
Experienced Robotic Surgery Team
Miami Valley Hospital has a dedicated robotic surgical team that has completed thousands of multi-specialty da Vinci® procedures, and has more experience than any regional hospital. We are leaders in robotic surgery.
For Surgeons and Critical Surgical Staff
An education training center for minimally-invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery, the Brethen Center for Surgical Advancement Robotics and Minimally-invasive Surgery raises the level of experience, and increases related surgical options for those who live in the area.
