- Weight Loss Surgery Information Seminar
- 5:30PM - 7:30PM, Holiday Inn, Fairborn
- If you have been struggling with your weight, join us for a free information seminar to learn about how you can win the battle. As a Center of Excellence, our surgeons and program have been found to have outstanding results with weight loss surgery. Join us as the surgeons review the latest advancements in weight loss surgery, the risks and benefits of surgery; including the improvement or resolution of many obesity related medical conditions such as sleep apnea, heart disease and diabetes. Previous patients who have had surgery will join us and share their stories about their struggles with weight and how they achieved success with weight loss surgery. This is the perfect time to get answers to all of your questions about weight loss surgery.

- Information that helps child to explore their role in their expanding family; learn simple age appropriate infant care techniques; Insightful DVD and group discussion. Tour of where mother and baby stays is included.

Registration Required - Montgomery County Stroke Survivor and Support Group
- 6:30PM - 8:00PM, Miami Valley Hospital
- Join other men and women who are understanding and
open to sharing support and experiences for the stroke
survivor, the family and the caregiver.
Be a part of educational opportunities, group outings,
and most importantly, get to know others who truly
understand, give valuable information and help family and loved ones in positive ways. Miami Valley Hospital. Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of the month. No registration required.
- Childbirth: Basic Tour
- 7:30PM - 8:30PM, Miami Valley Hospital, Berry Women's Health Pavilion
- Are you new to the area? Have you taken childbirth classes in the past three years? Just need a walk-through of our birthing center? Then this brief tour is for you! Starting at the entrance of the Berry Women's Health Pavilion, you will see the labor and birth rooms, postpartum rooms, and our natural birth center(Family Beginnings) with very large birthing tubs.
Registration Required - PreOperative Total Joint Class
- 9:00AM - 11:15AM, Miami Valley Hospital
- For patients undergoing total joint replacement surgery at Miami Valley Hospital Main or South Campus. To educate patients about preparing for joint replacement surgery. To familiarize patients and families with the hospital process from before surgery to the day of surgery to discharge. We will teach: what to expect, nutrition, pain management, discharge plans and more. We will introduce the physical therapy and occupational therapy components of recovering from joint replacement surgery. We will also teach how to get your home ready for your return after surgery. Family members or friends may attend class with each patient.

- Community Stroke Screenings include:Blood Pressures,Total Cholesterol/HDL(good cholesterol)/Blood Sugar fingerstick test, Listening to the blood vessels in your neck,stroke risk assessments and counseling with a stroke nurse for those found at risk.No fasting required.

- Massage and Your Newborn

- Learn the importance of newborn massage and techniques you can use with your new baby! A licensed massage therapist will teach the class.

- Know what to expect during labor and birth;learn relaxation,labor support, and breathing techniques. A basic tour of the facility is included. We also offer a variety of options to meet your educational needs.

Registration Required - Caring for Your Amazing Newborn

- Babies don't come with directions, but this class series gives new parents the how to's of basic infant care and parenting skills for surviving he first weeks and months of new parenting! This is a two week series. First time parents are encouraged to attend this class.

- MVH Family Beginnings Birth Center Orientation Class
- 3:00PM - 4:00PM, Miami Valley Hospital, Women's Health Tower
- This orientation class is for those interested in a natural childbirth experience. This is one of the requirements in the enrollment process for the Family Beginnings Natural Birth Center Program of Care. Your labor, birth and recovery and stay will occur in Family Beginnings Birth Center which is adjacent to the Labor and Delivery Unit at Miami Valley Hospital. Information about this Program of Care and paperwork for enrollment will be given during the class. If you have had a previous experience at the Family Beginnings Birth Center, please call the Family Beginnings Birth Center (937.208.4597).

- Session is led by a trained, volunteer cosmetologist who teaches women how to cope with appearance related side effects related to cancer treatment.

- It is time again for the transplant patient/family education meeting for those who are either considering a kidney transplant or have made a decision and are awaiting a transplant.

- For patients undergoing spine surgery at Miami Valley Hospital. To educate patients about preparing for spine surgery. To familiarize patients and families with the hospital process from the day of surgery to discharge. We will teach pain management concepts aimed at controlling your post-operative pain. To introduce the physical therapy and occupational therapy compenents of recovering from spine surgery. We will also teach how to get your home ready for your return after surgery. One family member or friend may attend class with each patient.

- Adults who have undergone or are considering a blood and/or marrow transplant are invited to attend this free monthly support group. Family members and friends are also welcomed.

- Your experiences adds to a review of how labor can be different, labor support options, sibling adjustment. A tour is included. Two 2 1/2hr. classes, or one 5 Hr.class on weekend day.

- New parents or family members will learn how to provide aid to a choking baby and to perform infant CPR. This is not a course that "certifies" you in CPR.
