Meet the Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) Sports Medicine Center team.
Sean Convery, MD, Medical Director
Dr. Sean Convery, MD, joined the Wright State University School of Medicine in 1986 and MVH in 1990. He is a board-certified Family Practice Physician with additional certification in sports medicine. He is also an active faculty member at Wright State and teaches in the Department of Family Practice. Dr. Convery has also served as Head Team Physician for the University of Dayton since 2000. As Medical Director of Sport Medicine, he is also involved in business development for MVH Sports Medicine Center.
Dr. Convery received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry at the University of Steubenville and his Doctor of Medicine at Wright State University. He completed his internship and residency at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Dayton where he spent his last year as Chief Resident. Before coming to MVH, Dr. Convery received a broad base of medical and teaching experience. He was Team Physician for Colonel White High School and Wright State University. He was an Emergency Room (ER) physician at the Piqua Medical Center and had a private family practice in Kettering. He also was the Associate Director of the Family Practice Residency Program at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Vanessa Sandarusi, Director of the Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio
Vanessa Sandarusi oversees MVH Sports Medicine Center as part of the Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio at MVH. She came to MVH in 2000 as part of an administrative fellowship. Her current responsibilities include all same-day and hospitalized rehabilitation services, Sports Medicine Center, Pain Services, Occupational Medicine, and the Department of Psychology.
Vanessa received her Masters of Business Administration and Masters Degree in Health Service Administration from Xavier University. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from Ohio State University.
Melissa Peters, DPT, Program Manager of Outpatient Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine PT
Melissa joined Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) in July 2004 as a Staff Therapist on the general rehab team. She was the Inpatient Coordinator for four years and has been in her current position since March 2012. Melissa received her Bachelor of Science from Ohio University in 2000. She did her postgraduate work at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. In 2004 she received a Doctoral of Physical Therapy.
Amy Bernard MS, AT, ATC, PES, Manager of Athletic Training Services
Amy Bernard is a graduate of Morehead State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training. She later earned her master’s degree in Health Promotion, Exercise Science, and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania. Amy is a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer and is also certified as a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Amy began her career at UVMC Center for Sports Medicine, where she was an athletic trainer at Troy High School for 5 years. Afterwards, Amy worked for DJO, a medical orthopedic bracing company, from 2005-2008. Amy came on staff with The Sports Medicine Center at Miami Valley Hospital and has served as one of the athletic trainers at Beavercreek High School from 2008-2012. In 2010, Amy accepted the role as Coordinator of Athletic Training Services and was promoted to Manager of Athletic Training Services in June of 2012. Amy is an accredited clinical instructor for Cedarville University and Wright State University.
Since 2009, Amy has assisted with athletic training coverage for the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League and has provided sports medicine coverage at the Amare Stoudemire, Anthony Davis, Deron Williams, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James Skills Academies, as well as the Jordan Brand Classic. She is on the adjunct faculty of the University of Dayton, where she taught Kinesilogy in 2011, and currently teaches Intro to Athletic Training. Amy resides in Huber Heights with her husband and two daughters.
Chrissy Crowe MPT, ATC
Chrissy graduated from Wright State University with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. She then graduated from Andrews University in physical therapy. Chrissy works as a physical therapist at Miami Valley Sports Medicine Center and Fidelity Home Health Care. She also serves as the physical therapist for the University of Dayton athletics working with the physicians and athletic training staff in the care of the UD athletes.
Sara Dallman, PT, SCS
Sara received her bachelor of science from Ohio University and then went on to get her degree in physical therapy from Ohio State University. Sara is certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist in physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy. Sara has worked at Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center since 1994.
Heidi Knellinger, PT, OCS, SCS
Heidi received her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the Ohio State University. She is board certified by the American Physical Therapy Association in orthopedics and sports physical therapy. Heidi is an orthopedic clinical specialist at Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center.
Jamie Rodman PT, DPT, SCS, MTC
Jamie received his bachelor’s degree in zoology from Ohio University and then received his degree in physical therapy from the Chicago Medical School. He went on to receive a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of St. Augustine. Jamie is certified in Manual Therapy and by the American Board of Physical Therapy as Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy. Currently Jamie is Orthopedic Clinical Skills Lab Assistant for the University of Dayton Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
Tony Watson PT, SCS
Tony received his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Bowling State University in Consortium with the Medical College of Ohio. Tony is certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist in physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy. Tony has worked at Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center since 1995.
Kevin Allen, MS, AT, ATC, CSCS
Kevin has been with Miami Valley Hospital since 1995. He received his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Anderson University with a double minor in biology and business administration. Kevin earned a master’s degree from Miami University in Exercise and Health Studies with a concentration in Exercise Science. While at Miami University he completed a graduate assistantship in Miami University’s Intercollegiate Sports Medicine program where he was the athletic trainer for the university’s NCAA Division I intercollegiate wrestling program. Kevin has worked with the University of Dayton intercollegiate athletics program as an assistant athletic trainer where he primarily covered the NCAA Division I men’s soccer and women’s track and field programs. Before joining the sports medicine team at Fairborn High School, Kevin spent 14 years working as an athletic trainer in various capacities at Kettering Fairmont High School. Kevin is a licensed athletic trainer by the state of Ohio and a certified athletic trainer by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Kevin is an instructor in Professional Rescuer CPR and First Aid by the American Red Cross. Kevin currently works as an athletic trainer at Fairborn High School he also provides Sports Injury evaluations to University of Dayton students.
Greg Bozeka, AT, ATC
Greg received his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Ohio University. Currently is an athletic trainer for Springboro High School. His primary coverage is soccer, boys basketball, wrestling and baseball. Greg is a certified First Aid/CPR instructor through American Red Cross. Prior to his arrival at Springboro, Greg worked three years at Missouri University of Science and Technology covering football, men’s basketball and baseball.
Christopher Cameron M.Ed. AT, ATC
Chris has been with Miami Valley Hospital and Springboro High School since February 2011. He is a graduate of Wright State University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. While at WSU, he interned in athletic training at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, working with men’s ice hockey and women’s gymnastics. Then, Chris received his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Dayton. While at UD he was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the women’s volleyball and track and field teams. After Graduate School, he worked has an intern Athletic Trainer for the Atlanta Falcons. At Springboro, Chris is responsible for the student athletes in football, volleyball, girls’ basketball and softball.
Becca Chamberlin, AT, ATC
Becca Chamberlin received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Wright State University. She is a nationally certified athletic trainer and licensed in the state of Ohio. Becca is in her fifth year as athletic trainer at Xenia High School. Becca completed her internship in athletic training at Cleveland State University.
Becca was born and raised in Xenia and currently resides in Fairborn with her husband and daughter.
Karli Dill, MA, AT, ATC
Karli E. Dill, MA, AT, ATC is a graduate of Wright State University where she majored in athletic training. She received a master’s degree in exercise and sports science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Karli came to Beavercreek High School through Miami Valley Hospital from the University of North Carolina where she was the graduate assistant athletic trainer for women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse. She worked in the physical therapy clinic and instructed a lifetime fitness course for all students at UNC.
Karli’s experience is wide and varied and she is a licensed and certified athletic trainer along with being CPR/AED professional rescuer and American Red Cross certified to administer emergency oxygen.
Andrew M. Ford, MA, AT, ATC
Andrew Ford, MA, ATC, AT received his bachelor’s degree in sports science with an emphasis in athletic training from the University of Kansas. He went on to receive his Master’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports science from San Jose State University. Andrew is currently working toward a MPH with an emphasis in Health Education at Wright State University.
Andrew is the lead athletic trainer at Centerville High School through Miami Valley Hospital. He covers all sports at the high school.
He came to MVH from the United States Air Force where he was a health technician at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He was an athletic trainer at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange in California and served as assistant athletic trainer at the University of Southern California and Wichita State University through Christ Regional Medical Center.
Ashley L. Haldeman, MS, AT, ATC
Ashley L. Haldeman, ATC, LAT is an athletic trainer for the Centerville City Schools.
She is a graduate of Bowling Green State University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education (athletic training) in 2009. Ashley then received a Master of Science from Western Michigan University in Exercise and Sports Medicine with a concentration in athletic training.
Ashley comes to Miami Valley Hospital from Paw Paw High School in Michigan where she was head athletic trainer for two years. While at Paw Paw she worked collaboratively with the team physician and coaches to ensure athletes were at optimal health to play their chosen sports. She provided injury evaluations and developed treatment plans.
Ashley did her athletic training internship with the Charlotte Eagles soccer team and has also provided medical care to men and women’s NCAA Division I athletes.
In addition to participation in a number of community events as the athletic trainer, Ashley was an academic honoree at both Bowling Green and Western Michigan.
Michael Jones, MS, AT, ATC
Michael Jones received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Safety Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Indiana University. He is the athletic trainer at Greeneview High School through Miami Valley Hospital. Michael received his Master of Science degree in Health and Safety Education from Indiana University. He has been certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association since 1972 and is licensed by the state of Ohio to practice athletic training.
Mike has also served as athletic trainer at Bedford-North Lawrence High school in Indiana and Piper High School in Florida. He has served several years as athletic trainer for Athletes in Action, a sports-wide ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.
In his long career, Michael has served as athletic trainer for the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials and the Indiana North-South All-Star baseball game, also in Indiana.
Michael and his wife have a grown son and grandson.
Mark K. McIntire, MS, AT, ATC, ROT
Mark is a graduate of Northwestern College in Minnesota where he majored in Athletic Training and Exercise Science. He received a master’s degree in Athletic Training from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania where he also participated in the orthopedic physician extender program.
Mark is a certified athletic trainer at Xenia High School through Miami Valley Hospital. He works with athletes in football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, track and field. While at East Stroudsburg University, Mark was a graduate assistant at Wilson Southern Middle School and Wilson High School. He also was a student athletic trainer for the U.S. Hockey League, Concordia College baseball and the International Ice Hockey Federation.
Mark is a certified and licensed athletic trainer in the state of Ohio.
Angela Stahl, MS, AT, ATC, CSCS
Angela received her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and a minor in Coaching from Miami University in 2007. She went on to earn her masters degree in Athletic Training from Western Michigan University while also completing a graduate assistantship as the Athletic Trainer for Vicksburg High School in Vicksburg, Michigan. Angela came to Miami Valley Hospital in 2009. She was the Athletic Trainer at Alter High School from 2009-2011 and is currently the Athletic Trainer at Bellbrook High School. Angela is a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification and state of Ohio, a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a certified first aid and CPR instructor for the American Red Cross.
Laura Weber, ATC
Laura is a graduate of Wright State University, where she majored in Athletic Training. Laura completed her internship with Oxford Physical Therapy at the Tri-county/ Fairfield location, in Cincinnati Oh. At Oxford PT she had the privilege of working with an array of patients, from High School level athletes to those with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. Laura also had the privilege of working with a Collegiate-level Wood Bat League during her summer internship at Oxford PT.
Laura has always been interested in the field of Sports Medicine and was introduced to this career choice when she participated in the SNAPP program, in high school, at Good Samaritan North Health Center.
Laura was hired by Miami Valley Hospital to cover athletics at Centerville High School. She has been with Centerville High School since October 2012.
Laura is licensed in the State of Ohio and is a nationally certified athletic trainer.
Amy Wheeler, AT, ATC
Amy Wheeler received her Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training from Wright State University and is completing work for her Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Sciences. She has worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer since 2004 and joined the Beavercreek High School Athletic Training staff in 2005. Amy began her career at Kettering Sports Medicine but happily joined Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center in 2008. Amy is a member the Greater Dayton Athletic Trainer's Association and serves as an accredited clinical instructor for WSU to help the next generation of Athletic Training Students through their curriculum.
