Room Amenities

Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) rooms include a variety of amenities to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Our team will work with you to make sure your communications, privacy, and entertainment concerns are met in addition to your health care needs.

Your Room

Although rooms may vary slightly, each MVH room is designed for your medical needs and comfort.

We want your stay to be as pleasant as possible. If you have any concerns about the temperature or non-medical equipment (i.e., television, lights, radio) in your room, please call ext. 2500.

Nurse Call, Lighting and TV Controls

Your nurse will show you how to operate the nurse call, room lights and television using the handset at your bedside.

Your nurse or patient care technician (PCT) will be checking on you about every hour during your stay.  If something should come up btween our care rounds, push the nurse button and wait for an answer, then state your request in a normal speaking voice.

During the Night

Please stay in bed after you have been prepared for the night. For assistance during the night, just use your nurse call button.

The telephone by your beside is for your private use. To place a local or long-distance call from your telephone, pick up the handset, press the Outside Access button, if needed, and then dial your number.

Long-distance Calls

Long-distance calls cannot be charged to your hospital account. The calls must be placed in one of the following ways:

  • Credit Card Calls - Pick up the handset, listen for the dial tone and then dial the number following the instructions of your long distance carrier.

Incoming Calls to Patient Rooms

Each patient telephone has its own number displayed on the information white board in the room.  Please give your number to family and friends so they may reach you directly without going through the hospital switchboard. Incoming calls to patient rooms are not accepted after 10:00 pm.

There may be times during your stay at MVH when you, your physician, or the nursing staff feel you should not be disturbed. In these cases, pressing the “DO NOT DISTURB” button on your telephone will route your incoming calls to an automatic answering system.

Cell Phone

Cellular-enabled wireless devices may be used exccept within three feet of any patient.  They must be powered off completely in all intensive care units and in the Surgery Center patient areas.  Two-way radio voice and data devices (walkie-talkies) must be powered off in all patient areas because they are more likely to interfere with medical equipment.

Wireless Internet

All patient rooms offer wireless Internet access (Premier WiFi) from your laptop or other electronic device.  WiFi access is also available in hospital waiting areas and food service facilities.

Television

The MVH television system receives local commercial and public television stations, more than 20 cable channels offering news, entertainment, sports and religious programming; and MVH-based patient education programming. The Hospital Video Theater movie channel offers a selection of feature films.

Captioned programs for the hearing impaired and Spanish language programming are available.

If you experience a problem with your television service, please call ext. 2506 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and ext. 2500 evenings and weekends.
