Campus Police

Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) is committed to keeping the hospital campus safe and secure for patients, visitors, and staff. To reach Campus Police, dial ext. 3366 from any phone. Off campus, dial 937-208-3366.

Weapons Policy

Ohio’s Concealed Carry Law permits hospitals and other private employers to post signage on their property to prohibit the carrying of concealed weapons on posted premises. MVH has always enforced, and will continue to enforce, a no tolerance weapons policy pertaining to all patients, visitors, physicians, residents, volunteers, and employees. Anyone who knowingly violates the concealed weapons ban on hospital property, or who refuses to comply after being informed of the ban, may be arrested for criminal trespass, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Metal Detector

A metal detector is installed at the entrance to the MVH Emergency Trauma Center. The metal detector is in operation 24 hours a day, year-round.

The following policy applies to anyone using the Emergency entrance:

• All persons entering the Emergency Trauma Center shall be subject to search as a condition for entering the department
• Persons refusing the search will be denied entry

Valuables and Personal Belongings

Each patient room has a bedside stand or console with drawers and a place for hanging a small amount of clothing. Because these storage areas cannot be locked, we encourage you to send any valuables home with a family member.

MVH cannot be responsible for personal belongings. We strongly recommend that patients send jewelry, credit cards, cash, and other valuables home. Valuables can also be deposited at the hospital for safe keeping and returned on request through the Campus Police (ext. 3366). If you want to safeguard your valuables, please ask your nurse to arrange for this service.

A special denture cup and glasses case are also available for your use. If you did not receive one, please request it from your nurse.

Patients should follow these additional suggestions to help protect their personal belongings during their hospital stay:

• Keep hearing aids, eyeglasses, and dentures in appropriate containers when not in use
• Keep clothing items in their closet or drawer when not in use
• Do not leave valuables on meal trays or in bed linen
• Do not wrap dentures, partials, jewelry, or hearing aids in tissues, where they may accidentally be thrown away
• Put the patient’s name on personal items (or ask a nurse for assistance)
• Check room carefully before changing rooms or going home

Patients who do lose something should notify their nurse immediately so hospital staff can help assist in locating the missing item.

Patients who need additional assistance with personal belongings are encouraged to ask their nurse.

Court-ordered Restraining Orders

For their own protection, patients should notify the hospital and provide copies of any restraining orders issued against family members or visitors who may attempt to see them in the hospital.

Oxygen

Special regulations are in effect when patients are receiving oxygen. Patients and visitors are asked not to use aerosol products, battery-operated equipment, or electrical appliances from home, especially in rooms where oxygen is in use.

Fire Drills

For the protection of patients, visitors and staff, MVH regularly conducts fire and disaster drills. If a drill occurs, there is no reason for patients or visitors to be alarmed. The hospital is a fire-resistant building and the staff is trained to respond to fire and other emergencies.
