Top Five Percent in the Nation for Quality

2010 HG Clinical ExcellenceMiami Valley Hospital (MVH) is ranked among the top 5% of the nation’s hospitals for quality by HealthGrades, a leading independent health care ratings company. MVH’s outstanding quality performance earned the hospital HealthGrades’ Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Patients admitted to a hospital receiving this award are on average 27% less likely to face mortality and 8% less likely to experience a major complication.

#1 in Southwest Ohio for Overall Cardiac Services

HealthgradesMiami Valley Hospital ranks first in the southwest Ohio for overall cardiac services, according to the Twelfth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study released in October 2009.

The study also ranks Miami Valley Hospital’s cardiac program among the top five hospitals in Ohio and top 5% in the United States for overall cardiac services, cardiology services, and coronary interventional procedures.

MVH has earned both the HealthGrades Cardiac Care Excellence Award and Cardiac Intervention Excellence Award with five-star ratings for overall cardiac care, cardiac services, coronary intervention procedures, treatment of heart attack, and treatment of heart failure.

Top Five Percent of Nation’s Hospitals for Women’s Health

HG Women's 10/11MVH has received the 2010-2011 Women’s Health Excellence Award from HealthGrades, based on a newly released study of patient outcomes.

Hospitals receiving the Specialty Excellence Award for women’s health rank among the top 5% of all hospitals nationwide when it comes to providing care to women in three key areas: women’s medicine, women’s cardiovascular procedures, and women’s bone and joint health.

One of America’s Best Hospitals

US NewsU.S.News & World Report ranked MVH as one of America’s best hospitals in 2008 for orthopedic care. Only 173 hospitals out of approximately 5,500 were named as one of the top hospitals in their category within the medical industry.
 
MVH was ranked by U.S.News & World Report in 2007 for respiratory disorders and ear, nose, and throat. MVH was rated again in 2004 for the specialty areas of digestive disorders, heart surgery, and respiratory disorders.
 
In 2003, the hospital was ranked by the publication in the areas of geriatrics, gynecology, and respiratory disorders. In 2002, MVH was ranked in the specialty fields of geriatrics, gynecology, neurology and neurosurgery, rheumatology and respiratory disorders. In 1999, MVH made its first appearance on the U.S.News & World Report list in the specialty area of respiratory disorders.

Magnet Hospital Certification

MagnetMVH received Magnet certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2004. At that time, MVH was the first hospital in Dayton, the fifth in Ohio, and one of only 115 hospitals nationwide to receive such a prestigious distinction of outstanding nursing practices.  Miami Valley Hospital earned a re-certification in 2008. Only 5% of hospitals across the United States have achieved Magnet status. An even smaller percentage of hospitals have earned re-designation.
 
Magnet hospitals are excellent places for nurses to work. They help to promote nurses’ independence, respect, and satisfaction in delivering patient care.

Consumer Choice Award Recipient

Consumer ChoiceFrom 1996-2009, MVH was chosen by Dayton consumers as the market leader in health care institutions for overall quality and image. The winner of the annual Consumer Choice Award, sponsored and implemented by the National Research Corporation, is determined by consumer perception on multiple quality and image ratings. MVH has won this category for 14 consecutive years, demonstrating the hospital’s dedication to giving patients exemplary medical care.

Joint Commission Certification

TJC LogoThe Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest health care accrediting body, has awarded Miami Valley Hospital nine disease specific certifications. It is the gold seal of approval that differentiates MVH for outstanding, quality care. Miami Valley Hospital has received certifications for Congestive Heart Failure, Acute Coronary Syndrome, Advanced Primary Stroke, Coronary Artery Bypass, Trauma, Palliative Care, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Joint Replacement-Hip and Joint Replacement-Knee.

NICU Expansion
Miami Valley Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) has completed a $19 million renovation and expansion.  Our new facility features a state-of-the-art unit—complete with private rooms—that meets the needs of both high-risk mothers and premature infants.
