New 11-Story Heart Tower Adds to Miami Valley Campus

Miami Valley Hospital will begin construction in May on a 440,000-square foot, 11-story heart tower on the south side of the campus. The focus of the new tower will be a comprehensive heart center featuring imaging services, cardiac testing, cardiac catheterization labs and heart surgery suites. The new tower will also include a total of 180 private patient rooms.

The new heart tower is expected to cost a total of $135 million, with completion set for late 2010. It will be located east of—and connected to—the Shaw Emergency and Trauma Center. The addition of the heart tower will create an even more inviting, attractive Miami Valley campus, with an open environment for patients and visitors to enjoy. The heart tower addition is one of the largest construction projects in Dayton history.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Expansion

MVH is undertaking a $19 million renovation and expansion of its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Miami Valley’s obstetrical service, a regional referral center for high-risk pregnancies, receives patients from a 17-county area.

The design of the new unit incorporates current research showing neonatal intensive care units should mirror the effects of the womb by monitoring light, noise, and temperature. Construction of the 51,000-square-foot project will be completed in the spring of 2009.

Miami Valley Hospital South Now Open

With the opening of Miami Valley Hospital South, near the intersection of Wilmington Pike and I-675 in Centerville, families throughout the area will have easy access to complete medical services, including life-saving emergency care, advanced diagnostic technology and techniques, outpatient surgery, physician offices, and more.
