Volunteer
Volunteers at Miami Valley Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital North and Miami Valley Hospital South are more than individuals who want to help. We integrate our volunteers into active roles that the staff depends on, with volunteers working hand-in-hand with staff members. Volunteer dedication is very strong here.
Volunteer duties include the expected, such as assisting with fundraising, welcoming visitors at the information desk, and transporting patients by wheelchair throughout the hospital. But there are many more integral duties too, such as data input, delivering mail and flowers, performing clerical duties, volunteering in clinical areas, and aiding many hospital departments. Our volunteers also staff the gift shop and assist with pet therapy and the Hospital Elder Life Program
We value our student volunteers from throughout the region who gain valuable experience while helping others.
Since the hospital depends more on its volunteers than other institutions might, we highly value the significant contribution our volunteers make. Our volunteers contribute hundreds of hours annually, which equates to the work of several full-time employees. We cannot thank them enough for all they do.
Fundraising
Volunteers are also a large part of the hospital’s fundraising effort. They raise thousands of dollars annually through the gift shop, baby photo sales, Christmas in the Valley, personal donations, and other fundraising projects, including the famous Miami Valley Hospital Buckeyes. Special sales that occur during the year include book sales, jewelry sales, and candy sales.
A Voice In Direction
We have a unique structure that provides a voice for our volunteers. The governing board has 12 volunteers, with the director of Volunteer Services serving as a board member.
Benefits and Recognition
Because we appreciate the extensive work that volunteers do here, we offer them a benefits package. Included are:

- Free flu shots
Volunteers are also invited to recognition events throughout the year to show our appreciation for their contribution. Among the events are the Key Club luncheon, annual picnic, and volunteer appreciation celebration.
During National Volunteer Week and National Volunteer Month in April, we also show our appreciation by honoring volunteers on the hospital's Wall of Excellence.
Volunteers also receive recognition pins for benchmarks of hours of service.
