A Message From the CEO
Nearly 15 years ago, prior to regulatory requirements from JCAHO, other agencies and today’s clear and compelling case for the provision of culturally competent services, Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) recognized the value of a diverse workforce. At that time, we did and still do believe that a diverse workforce is healthy. While our written mission did not yet include a commitment to building healthy communities as it does today, we embraced diversity as a key driver in enhancing not only individual and organizational performance, but also in improving the quality of health in greater Dayton and the surrounding areas.
Initially, our early discussions at the Board level centered around minority representation. While we have made significant strides in increasing our employee base of diverse staff, as a next step we endeavored to truly leverage our strengths through diversity. To this end, we realized that in meeting our patients’ expectations and in improving treatment outcomes, this required an understanding that concepts such as health, wellness, disease, and dying have different meanings to people. This required a commitment to education of diversity not as a one-time program but rather as a long-term strategy.
Today, our organizational commitment to diversity continues to evolve and is intricately woven into the fabric of our hospital’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
I welcome you to immerse yourselves in the value that we strive to practice daily.
