MVH Weight Loss Surgical Center Earns Blues Distinction for Bariatric Surgery
DAYTON, OHIO—June 5, 2008 —Miami Valley Hospital’s Surgical Weight Loss Center has earned another national recognition. The center has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery. The honor was given by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and is only presented to a select number of surgical weight loss programs across the United States which met stringent standards of quality and patient outcomes.
Since its inception in 2006, Miami Valley Hospital’s Surgical Weight Loss Center has performed more than 600 bariatric procedures. The comprehensive program offers patients a full-range of bariatric surgical care services including inpatient, post-operative care, follow-up and patient education. Surgeons who are a part of the program offer patients several weight loss surgical options including the adjustable gastric band procedure.
“This national distinction is recognition of our program’s integrated approach and our history of patient safety,” said Debra Anderson, manager of Miami Valley Hospital’s Surgical Weight Loss Center. “The Blue Distinction Center designation demonstrates to patients that we are providing this life-changing surgery the right way.”
Blue Distinctions Centers for Bariatric Surgery is a key part of the Blue Cross Blue Shield companies’ effort to collaborate with doctors and hospitals so they can improve the quality and affordability of specialty care.
In 2007, the Miami Valley Surgical Weight Loss program earned the designation of a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. This award signifies that the facility is physically equipped to provide care for bariatric patients, that the staff is sensitive to their special needs and that the bariatric service has a high level of successful patient outcomes.
