Miami Valley Hospital Honored for Employee Safety
DAYTON, OHIO—July 10, 2008 —Miami Valley Hospital was recently honored for employee safety by the Ohio Hospital Association. Fifty-nine of the OHA’s 174 member hospitals were considered for the award. Miami Valley Hospital was recognized for earning a top 20 percent overall ranking in the competition and was the only Dayton area adult hospital to be recognized.
Hospitals participating in the competition submit information on workplace safety that they are required to maintain for the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The injury rate for each hospital is calculated by dividing the number of injury cases with days away from work per 200,000 hours (the equivalent of one year with 100 full-time employees) by the number of hours worked that year.
For the past 55 years the OHA Statewide Hospital Safety Campaign has recognized successful hospital safety programs and superior employee safety records. The safety awards program was created in 1953 by the Ohio Hospital Association and the Industrial Commission of Ohio to promote workplace safety.
Miami Valley Hospital has a workforce of nearly 5,800 employees.
