Laura Beck chose Miami Valley Hospital (in Dayton) because she wanted to be close to home while also having a ‘pioneer’ in bariatric surgery on her side.
Laura’s diabetes was ‘out of control’ as was her blood pressure. At 340 pounds, Laura knew she needed to do something serious and successful. “My parents were my support system. We visited the Cincinnati program first and then the one at Miami Valley Hospital (in Dayton).” She was very impressed with the pre-surgery information seminar. “Plus the seminars were so much more personal. The ones in Cincinnati seemed like a big commercial.”
Dr. Donovan Teel did her LAP-BAND® procedure and today she eats about one-sixth of what she ate before the surgery. Because of her diabetes, Laura’s stay in the hospital was a day or two longer than normal. “I wanted to stay even longer because the staff was so great.”
Prior to surgery, Laura was taking medicine for her diabetes and her high blood pressure. “Since surgery I no longer take those medications. Plus I’m not tired all the time.” Her feet used to swell and walking was difficult. “I’ve lost over 100 pounds and I feel great. I still have some more to lose.”
Laura wants the world to know there is help and hope at Miami Valley Hospital (in Dayton). “I tell everybody about the surgery. It absolutely saved my life.”
What do I do next?
