What Can I Expect Before & After Weight Loss Surgery?

Before Surgery

Once you and your physician have decided that weight loss surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, is an option, you should learn more about the process of preparing for the surgery. This involves research, physical and psychological examinations and meeting with a nutritionist.

After Surgery

You begin the actual process of losing weight after your surgery. Surgical weight loss limits the amount of food you can eat, but it doesn’t remove the pounds for you. Although the process depends on many factors, you should expect to reach your weight loss goal in about one to two years. It might be helpful to join a support group to help you stay accountable for your weight loss process and goals. Depending on the type of weight loss surgery, you can return to work within a few weeks to a couple of months.

Keep in mind that lifestyle changes are absolutely necessary to bring down your weight, keep it off, and help prevent complications related to the surgery.
