Ric McAllister, Director of Behavioral Services
Ric McAllister joined Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) in 2004. Previously he had been involved in Behavioral Services at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Ohio, and with Intensive Treatment Programs in Wheatfield, Indiana.
Ric completed his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degree in Social Work at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. He also received a Specialist Degree in Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
Ric is a Board-Certified Diplomat in Clinical Social Work with qualifications from the Academy of Certified Social Workers. He also holds the title of Director of Behavioral Services for Good Samaritan Hospital and Premier Health Partners.
Amita Patel, MD, CMD, MHA, CPE, Medical Director of MVH Behavioral Services, Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine
Dr. Amita Patel attends to medical management of psychiatric patients and guides quality assurance. She earned her Medical Degree from Topiwala National Medical College at the University of Bombay. After coming to the United States, she received her Fellowship Training in Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Patel is certified in Adult, Geriatric, and Addictions Psychiatry and helped set up Geriatric programs at 45 facilities in Southwest Ohio.
D. Scott Coffman, MSEd, LICDC, PCC, MA, Program Manager of Turning Point and Psychiatric Outpatient Services
Scott has been with MVH since 1984. He completed his Associate degree in Mental Health Technology from Sinclair Community College in 1984 and his Bachelor’s degree from Antioch University McGregor in 1990.
Scott earned a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from the University of Dayton in 2003. He completed the coursework to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor from the University of Dayton in 2003.
Scott will be confirmed with a Master’s degree in Management from Antioch University McGregor in June 2009.
Scott is a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor in the State of Ohio and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.
Deb Mals, Chief Nursing Officer/Exec VP
Deb Mals's plan from childhood was to be a nurse. She started at MVH as a nursing assistant when she was 16 and went through MVH's Nursing Program. Her first position as a nurse was in Critical Care. She furthered her education at Wright State University. Afterward, she became Manager of Critical Care and then Director of Critical Care and Women's Services.
Deb has been in her current position for 10 years and has spent her entire 35-year career at MVH. She was also involved in MVH receiving Magnet Hospital distinction for nursing. Deb is originally from Tennessee.

Sherrill Stewart, RN, Nurse Manager
Sherrill Stewart leads and supervises the Inpatient Behavioral unit. She started her nursing career at MVH in 1990. Since then, Sherrill has been involved in various nursing capacities at MVH, mostly in Behavioral Health.
Sherrill received her Associate of Nursing from Sinclair Community College and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has completed a subsequent course in Preoperative Nursing and Health Unit Coordinator training.
