Meet the team at the Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) Regional Adult Burn Center.
Travis Perry, MD, Medical Director of the MVH Burn Unit
Dr. Travis Perry joined MVH in 2007. He started his education at Winston Salem State University in North Carolina, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology on a NASA scholarship. Dr. Perry then went to East Carolina State University School of Medicine, where he received his Doctorate of Medicine.
While finishing school, Dr. Perry worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Neuropathy-Neuroscience at the University of Texas medical branch in Galveston, Texas, and the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Laboratories at Winston Salem State University in North Carolina. He completed his residency in General Surgery at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. At Wake Forest, he was Chief Resident.
Dr. Perry also completed a Surgical Critical Care and Burn Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Galveston. He has received additional certification in Advanced Burn Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support and Basic Cardiac Life Support.
R. Michael Johnson, MD, FACS Associate Director of the MVH Burn Unit, Chief of the Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine
Dr. R. Michael Johnson joined MVH in 1995. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He did his residency in General Surgery at MVH and his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Johnson is fellowship trained.
During his time at MVH, Dr. Johnson has taught at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine as an Assistant Clinical Professor, a Junior Resident Instructor, and an Associate Professor.
Melora Waltman, RN, BS, MVH Burn Center Nurse Manager
Melora Waltman is the Nurse Manager of the MVH Burn Center. She graduated with a diploma in Nursing from MVH School of Nursing in 1981. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Andrews University in 1993.
Melora has worked as a nurse at MVH since 1981. She joined the MVH Burn Center as a staff nurse in 1984. Since that time, she has held several roles within the Burn Center and has been the Nurse Manager since 1994.
Melora is a national faculty member of the Advanced Burn Life Support course.
Missy Tallmadge, CNRN, BSN, Director of Nursing, MVH Burn Center
Missy Tallmadge joined MVH in 1997. She was a Staff Nurse, Clinical Nurse Educator, and Nurse Manager before becoming Director of Nursing. Missy completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Wright State University. She is in the process of completing her Masters of Science in Nursing and Master of Health Administration at the University of Phoenix. Missy is also a certified Neurological Registered Nurse.
