About Miami Valley Hospital Intensive Care Unit

The 41-bed medical-surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) is the largest in Southwest Ohio. The ultra-modern facility is well-equipped with state-of-the-art technology to enable the nursing and medical staff to spend needed time at patients’ bedside. All rooms are private, large, and have windows with a view of the outdoors. There is a large waiting room that is separate from the patient care area and includes a kitchenette and vending machines.

Staffed 24 hours a day, the MVH ICU is designed with four nursing stations that are just a few steps away from each room. There are computer stations inside and outside of the rooms, allowing the nurse to stay close to the patient while completing necessary documentation. Every room has a window so that the patients are easily viewed from the hallway and computer alcoves. The ICU has its own pharmacy for the fastest access to needed medications. Everything in the ICU is centered on immediate care for the patients. 

Patients in the ICU are treated by a variety of specialists working together as a coordinated team. Intensivists (physicians who are specialty-trained in Critical Care), Trauma-certified surgeons, specialty-trained nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Nutritionists, Pharmacists, the Palliative Care Team, Pastoral Counselors, IV Therapists, Lab Technicians, Imaging Technicians, and Radiologists combine their expertise to give the best care possible. Many hospitals don't have all these disciplines.  

As the only Level I Trauma Center in Southwest Ohio coupled with CareFlight services, our emergency department receives the most critical patients in the area. MVH not only has a highly experienced emergency department, but we also have the region's only Adult Burn Unit, a Level IIIB Maternity Center, and pioneering neurological treatment for strokes and aneurysms. The MVH ICU is staffed to care for patients with the widest variety of critical illness or injury.
