Miami Valley Hospital Recognized as Being a Fit-friendly Organization
DAYTON, Ohio, October 23, 2008 – Miami Valley Hospital has been named to the American Heart Association’s (AHA) list of Start! Fit Friendly companies, earning gold status in the 2008 competition.
To determine its list of Fit Friendly companies, the AHA evaluates an organization based on physical activities offered employees, nutritional policies and institutional culture.
The Fit Friendly award acknowledges Miami Valley Hospital’s commitment to employee health and fitness. Miami Valley offers workplace health benefits such as health screenings, a tobacco-free campus, smoking cessation counseling classes, healthy food options in its cafeterias, an on-site employee fitness center, Weight Watchers at Work, health risk assessments and organized noontime walking programs.
"We are honored that the American Heart Association has recognized Miami Valley Hospital as a Fit-Friendly Company," said Mary Boosalis, president and chief executive officer. “Being in the business of healthcare, it is important for each member of our workforce to set an example of good health habits. I believe we have created a culture of health and fitness at Miami Valley Hospital by establishing a number of wellness programs aimed at improving the health of our employees."
The American Heart Association's Start! Fit-Friendly Companies recognition program calls for employers to encourage workplace wellness and create a work environment conducive to physical activity, specifically walking.
