Physical pain, emotional turmoil and genuine desperation were just some of the feelings Petri Williams experienced before she decided to pursue weight loss surgery. She couldn’t walk from her car into the store without stopping to catch her breath. Getting into her car was nearly impossible. She couldn’t play with her children. “I was ignored, overlooked and not respected.”
High cholesterol, high blood pressure, fatty liver, gallbladder problems and back and joint pain were making life miserable for the 39-year-old mother from Tennessee. Diets and exercise didn’t seem to work. She finally gave up.
Unkind remarks school children made to her children about her were embarrassing and hurtful. Petri decided to take control. She did a lot of research on weight loss surgery. She opted for the duodenal switch and her research pointed to Dr. Maguire and Miami Valley Hospital. After attending the information session, Petri decided immediately she wanted to move forward and quickly!
The many years of experience under Dr. Maguire’s belt combined with the wonderful accommodations and staff on the unit, Petri said the five-hour drive from home to MVH was definitely worth it. “I couldn’t get there fast enough.” One year later, Petri’s medical problems are gone and she’s lost 142 pounds. People still ask her why she drove five hours for surgery. “Well if you are to meet Dr. Maguire and the staff, you would too.”
What do I do next?
