About Respiratory Care
Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) Respiratory Care treats patients who have difficulty breathing with medications and various types of breathing devices. The MVH Respiratory Care Department provides evaluation, treatment, management, and care for patients with breathing problems caused by a number of conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and heart disease. These functions are accomplished by therapeutic administration of oxygen, medication delivery, rehabilitation techniques, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, mechanical ventilation, and maintenance of natural and artificial airways.

MVH Respiratory Care provides a broad range of therapeutic modalities and services using a combination of cutting-edge technology and highly skilled clinical providers. Patients in the Emergency Department, Trauma Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and any other critical care area may use the services of the Respiratory Care team.
Services provided include:
- Bedside respiratory care
- Emergency response
- Mechanical ventilation to patients of any age
Patient protocol services allow for timely, evidence-based respiratory management of inpatients with 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week Respiratory Practitioner presence in the Emergency Department. Pulmonary function testing is offered by appointment Monday through Friday for inpatients and outpatients. Pulmonary stress testing is by appointment.
