Getting Ready for Your Baby
Having a baby is an exciting time for parents and the family. Our education program gives families knowledge of the process of labor and birth as well as infant and family care. The following classes have been designed especially with you in mind. Class prices are subject to change. All prices include a support person, unless otherwise indicated.

Classes are taught at two convenient locations: Berry Women’s Center at Miami Valley Hospital and at Miami Valley Hospital South in Centerville.
Childbirth Preparation
Learn what to expect during labor and birth; learn relaxation, breathing, and other labor support techniques. A basic tour of the facility is included. We also offer a variety of options to meet your educational needs. Sign up for a 4-week series or weekend series and receive a coupon for one session of any class in this brochure FREE! Basic Tour
Are you new to the area? Have you taken childbirth classes in the past three years? Just need a walk-through of our birthing center? Then this brief tour is for you! Starting at the entrance of the Berry Women’s Center, you will see the labor and birth rooms, postpartum rooms, and our natural birth center (with two-person Jacuzzi® tubs!). 45 minutes FREE
Ultimate Tour
This is an educationally expanded tour focusing on pregnancy warning signs and healthy tips. Appropriate at any time during pregnancy for people who are considering Miami Valley Hospital as their hospital of choice for the birth of their baby. Tour includes a visit to the labor and birth area, postpartum area, a nursery, and the Family Beginnings Birth Center. 1-1/2 hours FREE

Refresher Class for “Experienced” Parents
Your experiences add richness to a review of how labor can be different; options for labor support and sibling adjustment. A tour of the facility is included. Perfect if you have had a baby within the last three years.
Two 3-hour classes $35
One 6-hour weekend class (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. brown bag refresher)
Pregnancy Massage*
Learn the benefits and special considerations for massage during pregnancy and labor. 1-1/2 hours $20

Learn (and enjoy!) a variety of comfort/support techniques and experience how they can work for you. 2-1/2 hours $20
Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC)
Those planning a vaginal birth after a previous Cesarean birth learn about labor, birth, and support techniques. A tour of the facility is included. 2 hours $20

Breastfeeding Success
Learn the art and science of providing the perfect nutrition for your soon-to-be-born baby. Support persons are very welcome. 2-1/2 hours $25
- Breastfeeding: Keeping it Going: As your baby grows and changes, so will your questions. Get help with going back to work issues and much more. Please bring your baby to class. 2 hours $20
- Breastfeeding Package: Package includes “Breastfeeding Success” and “Breastfeeding: Keeping it Going.” $40
- Lactation Counseling: Certified lactation consultants are on staff to assist new mothers on an individual basis (inpatient and clinic). Phone consultations are free. Fee varies for one-on-one consultations in the lactation clinic. Call (937) 208-6160 for more information.
- Breastfeeding Support Group: Mom-to-mom sharing and support. Babies welcome, of course. Thursdays, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the lactation clinic, Wyoming Level, Berry Women's Center. FREE

Family Involvement Big Brother/Big Sister
4- to 11-year-olds: Children learn about labor, birth, and baby skills. A tour of the facility is included. 1 hour, $10 per child/$5 for each additional sibling
Sibling-at-Birth
Big brothers and sisters, along with their support person, prepare to be in the room during labor and birth and to welcome the new baby. 2 hours $20 per family

Grandparenting
We update “expecting” grandparents on what has changed in hospitals and baby care since they became parents and how to be the best new grandparents ever! Hospital tour included. 2 hours $25 per couple, $20 per person

Infant CPR
New parents will learn how to provide aid to a choking baby and to perform infant CPR. 2 hours $25 per couple, $10 for each additional person
Infant Massage*
The whole family is welcome to learn newborn massage. Take-home materials are included. Designed for infants two to 12 weeks. 1-1/2 hours $20

Caring for Your Amazing Newborn
Babies don’t come with directions, but this class series gives new parents the “How To’s” of basic infant care and parenting skills for surviving the first weeks and months of new parenting! 2 week series, 2-1/2 hour classes $40
