Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and robotic) is done through small incisions. Using specialized techniques and equipment Miami Valley Hospital surgeons are able to perform surgery through an incision that requires only a stitch or two to close. daVinici Robot-Assisted Surgery is a specialized form of minimally invasive surgery that has a growing use at Miami Valley Hospital. Robotic surgery gives the surgeon a better 3-D view and range of motion while working through small incisions. MVH had the first robotic surgery program in the area and is the only program with 2 robots. Originally introduced for prostate surgery, the system is now being used extensively in gynecological surgical procedures.
Miami Valley Hospital performs thousands of procedures each year. Minimally invasive surgery is performed both on an inpatient (stay in the hospital) and outpatient (go home the same day) basis.
