Topping Out Ceremony
Miami Valley Hospital held a Topping Out Ceremony for it’s Southeast Addition construction project on Monday, September 14. A Topping Out Ceremony is held when the last structural steel beam is placed at the top of a building which is under construction. The ceremony is deeply rooted in Eastern European history and came to America with European craftsmen. An evergreen tree is anchored to the beam as it is hoisted and symbolizes growth and good luck. Also anchored to the beam is the national flag which represents pride while working on the project. Before it is hoisted to its final place, it is customary for future occupants and construction workers to sign the beam.
