Auctioning Handbags for a Good Cause

Dayton, OH (December 4, 2009) – What woman can refuse a fantastic deal on a handbag?

There is an opportunity coming up that will give purse fashionistas a chance to add to their accessory wardrobe and help a good cause all at the same time. The event is called “It’s in the Bag” and will take place Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Miami Valley Hospital South in Centerville.

Nearly two hundred purses of various styles, shapes and colors will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.  Proceeds from the event will benefit Premier HeartWorks and will be used to educate women about the prevention of heart disease – the leading cause of death among women.

The event is sponsored by the Future Region’s Leaders, a career development group of young professionals working at Miami Valley Hospital.

Handbags will be displayed in the lobby of the hospital starting at 5:30 p.m. The live auction will get underway at 6 p.m. with guest auctioneer Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly. Local radio personality Kim Farris of Lite 99.9 will serve as mistress of ceremony.

Natalie Driscoll, event organizer, says attendees will find everything from glittery evening bags to quilted totes in the auction. She says some purses are new and others gently used. Many name brands are in the collection.

Purses in the auction were donated by hospital employees, physicians and several shops in the Centerville area including Joli Boutique, Pieces of Style, Miss Kelle’s Boutique, and The Zig Zag Gallery. A vintage handbag from the Clothes That Work Boutique will also be auctioned.

Items purchased can be paid for by cash or check. An ATM is on site for anyone who may need access to extra funds.

“This is going to a fun evening as we raise money for a good cause,” Driscoll says. “We expect bidding on several purses to be lively.”

There is no cost to attend the event. Refreshments will be provided to attendees by Tim Hortons.
