Building healthier communities is the mission of Miami Valley Hospital (MVH). It’s our compass, guiding us in everything we decide or do. Because schools are the heart of a community, it is a natural fit for MVH to work hand in hand with educators and other school staff to offer programs which enhance the existing academic curriculum. From lectures on career opportunities, to engaging mock experiences that teach better decision-making, to hands on activity on a nursing unit or with CareFlight Air and Mobile, MVH is committed to real-life, engaging and appropriate experiences that teach and help positively influence student’s educational journey.
You can make an online request for one of the below programs through the Student Enrichment Program Request Form.
As students grow in responsibility and focus on the future, Volunteerism offers them a great opportunity to “give back” to the community while learning about possible career options. Through the MVH VolunTeens Program, students ultimately gain experience, compassion and selflessness which will last them a lifetime.
Whether it’s a guest speaker presenting on a timely health topic or discussing with students the facts behind the consequences of their behavior, MVH’s professionals will bring classroom experiences to life with current examples and information that enhance many academic topics.
Substance Abuse Fair (Injury Prevention Center)
The Miami Valley Hospital Substance Abuse Fair is an interactive, thorough and moving experience which engages law enforcement, court and health professionals to expose students to the consequences of poor decisions related to substance use and abuse. The many components of this experience have a sobering and meaningful impact on the attendees.
Hands-on, real exposure to a career is priceless for students exploring opportunities. Miami Valley Hospital’s Health Care Careers program allows students to observe health care professionals while they’re working. In a one-day event, or three-day camp, students see for themselves several different career opportunities available in the health care arena.
Student Athletic Training Aide Program
For the student interested in becoming an Athletic Trainer, Miami Valley Hospital has a hands-on program that teaches about the field by allowing the students to work side by side with the high school athletic trainer. Students are also exposed to other medical careers that work alongside athletic trainers, such as physicians, therapists, etc.
