Cardiac Services at MVH specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and management of cardiac and vascular diseases and conditions. Our program is led by an experienced group of health care professional ―from cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and surgeons to cardiac nurses, physical therapists, and dietitians.
The team works together with your primary care physician, to provide a collaborative approach to your care. Each week this team meets to discuss cardiac care plans and how to improve quality and outcomes for patients. Your individual care plan is the result of the combined perspectives and expertise of each member team.
Saving Hearts and Lives
Miami Valley Hospital has the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the area which means a cardiologist and surgeon is available 24 hours a day, every day. Miami Valley Hospital Cardiology handles the highest number of heart emergencies in the Dayton area. We are dedicated to helping patients survive heart attacks by providing excellent heart care. Treating the patient as quickly as possible can improve the odds for heart attack victims. That’s why we focus on urgency at every level.
Heart Emergencies
The key factor in saving the life of someone having a heart attack is faster time to treatment. Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) continually works to reduce time in every aspect of a patient’s life-saving care.
Dayton is the second city in the nation to develop a Cardiac Alert Program with hospitals in the region and local Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Working with EMS first responders, MVH Cardiology uses the Cardiac Alert Program and advanced monitoring equipment to confirm a heart attack before the patient arrives. This helps patients be ready for Cardiac Cath Lab, Angioplasty or Stenting the moment they are rushed in.
When an alert comes in, MVH mobilizes the Heart Response Team and one of our cardiologists is notified before the patient arrives. Patients are taken directly to the Cath Lab, where an angioplasty or stenting can be performed immediately, cutting response time by up to 33 percent. By getting patients faster care, MVH Cardiology has significantly improved survival rates. Cardiothoracic surgeons are available 24 hours a day for emergency heart surgery.
After treatment, the patient is taken to the Miami Valley Heart and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Heart and Vascular ICU. Cardiac patients are given a high level of care and monitored continuously in our cardio intensive care.
Innovative Procedures
Miami Valley Hospital offers many innovative and specialty procedures not offered in other area hospitals. MVH introduced arrhythmia-spotting electrophysiology studies and plaque-resistant, drug-coated stents to our region. We are the only hospital in the area to offer cryoablation for precise treatment of abnormal and rapid heart rhythm.
MVH also offers minimally invasive valve surgery and new technologies like coronary 64-slice CT angiography, which can identify coronary artery disease earlier than ever before.
