Causes

Leukemia results when some blood cells acquire mutations in their DNA — the instructions inside each cell that guide its action. The exact cause of the DNA mutation is unknown, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Scientists have been able to locate changes in certain chromosomes of patients diagnosed with different types of leukemia.
