Robotic Surgery Expert Joins Miami Valley Hospital
(Dayton, OH)November 2, 2010 – Miami Valley Hospital is pleased to announce that Erik Weise, MD has joined the medical staff. Dr. Weise is trained in the treatment of urology cancer and is a leader in robotic and minimally invasive urologic surgery.
As an authority in robotic surgery Dr. Weise will add unique expertise to the treatment of prostate cancer. He is internationally known for his skills in robotic surgery, having performed over 1,000 robotic assisted procedures. Studies show that a robotic assisted prostatectomy can reduce blood loss, minimize pain, and shorten a patient’s hospital stay.
Dr. Weise is best known for minimally invasive kidney procedures. He is frequently invited to lecture on the subject at national meetings and has performed live surgery at international meetings. Most patients with a kidney tumor are candidates for a robotic operation that removes the tumor and saves the kidney. Dr. Weise will be working closely with physicians affiliated with Miami Valley Hospital’s medical oncology and radiation oncology programs.
During his training Dr. Weise spent two years in Switzerland with a world authority on bladder cancer. Following his residency in urology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and the University of New Mexico, he completed two fellowships: urologic oncology at the University of Washington and endourology at the University if Iowa.
He is also a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology, earning certification in 2007.
Dr. Weise is affiliated with Dayton Physicians, LLC, where is his joining the existing robotic team consisting of David Key, MD, Mark Monsour, MD and Michael Yu, MD.
