Miami Valley Hospital South (MVHS) has earned the coveted 2011 Press Ganey Summit Award
The Emergency Department at Miami Valley Hospital South (MVHS) has earned the coveted 201 Press Ganey Summit Award. The Summit Award honors hospitals that have achieved and sustained outstanding scores in patient satisfaction.
The Summit Award is presented to facilities that have sustained a percentile rank of the 95th percentile or above in each reporting period for three consecutive years. MVHS is the only emergency department in Dayton to receive this award and earned it through excellent patient care, compassion, respect and communication.
The Emergency Department is the anchor of Miami Valley Hospital South, which opened as a comprehensive outpatient facility in late 2007. From the start, the focus was to provide a “WOW” experience for our five customers:
We designed a facility with universal rooms and a process to immediately bed patients and begin their care with triage/assessment. Registration occurs at the bedside. We also recognized that the caregivers were central to the WOW. We have found our focus directs us toward initiatives that keep patients and families informed about their care.
Early on, a team of clinicians participated in visioning sessions to elicit the best emergency department experience for all. The visioning led to a facility with individual rooms arranged to promote patient privacy and comfort while keeping employees efficient. Implementation of immediate bedding, and bedside triage and registration, was a cultural shift for many clinicians.
The Relationship-Based Care model has been adopted throughout Miami Valley Hospital. We have found that the principles of relationship-based care – caring for your patients, yourself and each other – lead to an excellent customer experience and culture of caring.
