It’s been a long, hot summer in the Miami Valley. But, the weather is not the only thing that has heated up – so has the pace of expansion at Miami Valley Hospital South. At a time when patients are asking more from their healthcare system, MVH is expanding its footprint to residents in our southern communities.
At the end of June, we “topped off” MVHS’s five-story addition, which will add 64 private rooms to the facility in early 2012 with space for 48 additional rooms when needed.
At the same time, we announced plans to build a new Cancer Center at the south campus, thereby consolidating all aspects of cancer care at one convenient location. Opening date is January 2013.
Together, these expansions will add 287,000 square feet to the facility – and the need for skilled healthcare workers.
Some of those future employees may well be members of this year’s Healthcare Career Investigation Camp (HCI). This annual summer camp, sponsored by MVH, brings students from our five partnership high schools to the main campus for four days of
Summer is not only a time for learning new things but also a time to spend relaxing with family. The Stanley family, featured in this issue of ProHealth, spent a week in July whitewater rafting. That’s something they were never able to do until four family members underwent weight loss surgery at MVH. In another story, a mom-to-be looks forward to the birth of her first child after taking all the right steps to deliver a healthy baby.
Other patients featured in this issue have a new lease on life after being threatened with illness or disease: a high-school athlete returns to sports after a concussion forced a “timeout”; a 68-year-old manager resumes her career after spinal surgery rids her of debilitating pain; and a county magistrate gets back on the bench after a new treatment decreases his risk of developing cancer. These patients are now enjoying the summer – despite the heat – because of the quality of care they received at our hospital.
At MVH, we are looking forward to a cooler fall . . . and continued success in providing outstanding healthcare at outstanding facilities.
