Hospital Centers Earn “Center of Excellence” Designation
Dayton, OH (October 21, 2011) – The Breast Imaging Centers at Miami Valley Hospital and Miami Valley Hospital South recently received the prestigious Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation from the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
Miami Valley Hospital breast imaging services at both the downtown campus and Centerville location are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsy.
Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that these facilities have achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
Both the MVH and MVHS breast center provide digital mammography, breast ultrasound and breast interventional procedures. Breast MRI is available to patients at both campuses. Last year teams from both centers performed over 19,000 breast-imaging exams.
Headquartered in Reston, Va., the American College of Radiology is a national organization serving more than 32,000 physicians. For more than 20 years it has been the most widely recognized medical-imaging accrediting body, setting the industry's standards for excellence. Its programs focus on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
