Mammography Screenings
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in women. Successful treatment depends on early detection. A mammogram remains the only approved screening procedure for detecting breast cancer.
There are two types of mammograms offered at Miami Valley Hospital:
- Screening - You should have an annual screening mammogram if you are 40 years or older with no symptoms.
- Diagnostic - A diagnostic mammogram is used to evaluate abnormalities detected on a screening mammogram or to evaluate a current breast problem.
The American Cancer Society, National Commission on Cancer Network and the American College of Radiology recommend a mammogram annually.
