Inpatient Rehabilitation Video Transcript
When you or a loved one experience a debilitating illness or injury, who can you turn too?
Welcome to the inpatient rehabilitation program at Miami Valley Hospital, the region’s leader in acute rehabilitation services. With over 25 years of service to the Greater Dayton area, our inpatient rehabilitation programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehab Facilities. This provides assurance that our program strives to offer high quality services.
We offer specialized programs for brain injured and spinal cord injured patients, as well as stroke, amputee and general rehab patients, allowing us to custom tailor our care for each individual we serve. We use technology and evidence based practices available to help patients reach their goals. Over 75% of our patients are discharged to home after a stay with us. In addition, the majority of the patients we see meet their personal goals for rehabilitation.
Our dedicated rehab team is here to help a patient return to their family and community with the skills needed to function as independently as possible.
We believe patients and their families are active partners in reaching their goals for recovery. Our staff teaches and provides opportunities for patients to practice the skills they will need, and we are committed to supporting them every step of the way.
“How do I know if inpatient rehab is right for me?”
In order to be considered for the inpatient rehab program at MVH, patients must exhibit the need for at least two skilled therapies:
- Physical Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech-Language Pathology
...and have the ability to make functional progress.
Patients must also require around the clock rehabilitation nursing and regular physician visits.
You and your family are the most important members of the inpatient rehab team.
The rehab physician, a specialist in the field of physical medicine and rehab, is primarily responsible for you while you are in the inpatient rehab program.
Your nurses and patient care technicians provide specialized rehabilitation care for you throughout your stay.
The occupational therapist works with you to help you improve your independence in performing daily activities such as self care. They evaluate your abilities and focus on ways to help you resume your previous life role.
Your physical therapist helps you to become more independent with your mobility. Your flexibility, strength, coordination, balance and endurance are evaluated and addressed to help improve your ability to move.
The speech pathologist helps you to establish functional communication skills to express your needs and wants, adequate thinking skills for return to independence and safe swallowing skills.
Recreational and leisure activities are an important part of your life. The recreational therapist works with you to provide leisure resources and therapeutic activities to help you in your recovery.
We recognize a debilitating illness or injury may cause significant stress for patients and their families. Our rehabilitation psychologists are available to help you cope as you recover.
To help coordinate your care and help you transition to home or the next level of care, your case manager will meet with you and your family periodically throughout your rehabilitation stay. They work with you to help assure you are comfortable with your discharge plan and follow-up rehabilitation care.
When you or a family member needs inpatient rehabilitation care, Miami Valley Hospital’s program is the place to turn.
