Perinatal Intensive Care (PICU)
The MVH Perinatal Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides specialized care for high and at-risk moms before, during and after birth. Our PICU is the only high risk maternity center in the Dayton area.
Perinatal Intensive Care is Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified. The rooms in PICU are all private and spacious, much like the Birthing Rooms, including intensive care equipment for any situation. Mothers from 17 counties in southwest Ohio are transported to Miami Valley Hospital for specialized care in our family-centered Perinatal Care Unit.
Typical cases seen at Miami Valley Hospital’s PICU are moms-to-be with extreme hypertension, diabetes and gestational diabetes, thyroid issues, gastric by-pass, physical maternal as well as fetal placenta abnormalities, advanced maternal age, and multiples.
