Elizabeth Koelker, MHA, Administrative Director of Oncology
Elizabeth received her Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Wright State University and her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Bellevue University. Elizabeth is board certified and a candidate for fellowship with the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is a member of the American College of Oncology Administrators.
Elizabeth is responsible for building, establishing and maintaining the efficient operations of the Comprehensive Cancer Center located at Miami Valley Hospital South. She is accountable for the development of the oncology service line and provides strategic leadership for all oncology inpatient and outpatient services. Elizabeth’s experience in both pediatric and adult oncology gives her a thorough understanding of the dynamics, emerging technologies, quality indicators and practice patterns of cancer care.
Beka Abraham, MS, CNP, Gynecologic Oncology Center
Beka Abraham is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in the Gynecologic Oncology Center. She provides comprehensive care to women before, during, and after treatment.
Beka received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Cincinnati. She is certified through the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) in Women’s Health and is an active member in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She worked as a nurse at Miami Valley Hospital for several years, and upon completing her graduate degree worked at a local community clinic as a WHNP. In 2010 she returned to Miami Valley Hospital to join the Gynecologic Oncology Center.
Lora Bogan, MS, RN, NE-BC, Nurse Manager of the Inpatient Oncology Units
Lora has managed the inpatient oncology units for over 20 years. Lora understands the unique needs of oncology patients and their families, and she works with the inpatient staff to deliver quality and compassionate care. Many of the oncology nurses have achieved certification by the Oncology Nursing Society, a national organization dedicated to the oncology nursing specialty. Lora works closely with the interdisciplinary oncology team members to coordinate comprehensive care.
Elena Mikalauskas, MS, RN, AOCNS, Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist
Elena has worked with the oncology patients at MVH since 1987. In her current role, she works with individuals and their families who are dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Elena is an excellent resource to staff and patients. She facilitates several of the cancer support groups offered at MVH and is a current board member of the local chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society.
Amy McKenna, BSN, RN, Breast Cancer Navigator
Amy McKenna began working at MVH in 2002 on the Gynecology-Oncology unit where she provided postoperative care to breast cancer patients recovering from surgery. In 2006, she began working as Miam Valley Hospital’s first breast cancer coordinator. Amy developed and currently co-teaches the preoperative breast cancer class for breast cancer patients. She also works in the High Risk Breast Cancer Center at Miami Valley Hospital South.
In 2010, Amy began facilitating the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Support Group at Miami Valley Hospital. She received her BSN from Wright State University and is a certified breast health specialist.
Nancy Thoma, BSN, RN, OCN, Breast Cancer Navigator
Nancy Thoma has been caring for breast cancer patients at Miami Valley Hospital for over 30 years. She started her nursing education in the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing program. After receiving her diploma, Nancy received her BSN at Miami University. She also is an oncology nurse, certified by the Oncology Nursing Society and Chemo Administration Certified. Nancy is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society. She became MVH’s second breast cancer navigator when she became certified as a breast health specialist in 2007.
Nancy co-teaches the pre-operative breast cancer class at MVH. She also works in the High Risk Breast Cancer Center at Miami Valley Hospital South and she facilitates the “Still Me” breast cancer support group.
Julie Sawyer, MS, CGC, Genetic Counselor
Julie Sawyer is a board-certified genetic counselor specializing in the field of breast cancer genetics. She works with women who are concerned about their genetic risks for developing breast and ovarian cancer as the genetic counselor in the High Risk Breast Cancer Center at Miami Valley Hospital South.
Julie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Classics from the Ohio State University in 1989 and a Master’s degree in Medical Genetics from the University of Cincinnati in 2004. She joined MVH in 2007, working in the Perinatal Center. In 2009, she joined the High Risk Breast Cancer Center where she enjoys counseling and educating women about the genetics and heredity of breast cancer, developing education presentations, and participating in public health outreach activities. She is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors and is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
Deborah Wise, MS, RN, AOCNS, Blood and Marrow Transplant
Debbie Wise has been caring for the Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) patients at Miami Valley Hospital since 1996. Debbie provides pre-transplant education, daily rounds during hospitalization and follow-up care after discharge. She facilitates the “Continuing the Journey” support group for BMT patients and their families. Debbie received her Diploma in Nursing from the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Cincinnati, and her Master of Science in Nursing from Wright State University. She is a Certified Advanced Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist through the Oncology Nursing Society.
Pat Wisecup, BSN, RN, OCN
Pat has worked at Miami Valley Hospital since 1981 and been a nurse on the Gynecology/Oncology unit at MVH since 1987. For the past 15 years she has been the shift manager on this unit. In this role, Pat provides care to women with gynecological cancer and administers chemotherapy. Pat received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wright State University and is an oncology certified nurse (OCN) and member of the Oncology Nursing Society and the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Southwest Ohio.
