Oncology Patient Care
Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) nurses working in the MVH Oncology Patient Care unit will provide care primarily for Medical Oncology patients in various phases of treatment including chemotherapy and supportive care, with the additional capability of cardiac monitoring. Medical oncology nurses provide emotional support and education to patients and family.
MVH Oncology Patient Care Details
Number of Beds: 20 beds - 6 private and 7 semi-private rooms.
Shift Options: The unit supports a mix of 12 hour and 8 hour shifts. MVH nurses working as support nurses can work four hour blocks and eight hour blocks. Shift times are subject to change at the discretion of the Manager or Director at any time.
Orientation Classes: Complete Nursing Orientation in six weeks; Will complete electrocardiogram (EKG) classes. Oncology Disease Management Class offered. There is opportunity for many contact hours.
Experience/Certifications: Encourage advancing clinical excellence (ACE) clinical ladder participation and Oncology Certification. Encourage involvement in local chapter of Oncology Nursing Society. Encourage advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification.
