Neonatal Intensive Care
Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) nurses working in the MVH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) care for pre-term as well as full-term babies with a variety of medical and surgical conditions with a family centered approach.
MVH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Details
Number of Beds: The MVH NICU is a 24 hour, seven days per week inpatient hospital nursing care unit with 60 beds located in the Berry Women's Center. Admission to the nurseries is determined by physician-developed criteria. We are a Level IIIB NICU.
Types of Patients Cared for on Unit: The patients' ages range from first born (including premature babies) up to 28 days of age, and infants beyond the neonatal period but less than six months. We are a regional center for ECMO (Extra Corporal Membrance Oxygenation).
Shift Options: NICU has 12 hour shifts:
7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and 11:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m..
Transitional Nursery has 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Shift times are subject to change at the discretion of the Manager or Director at any time.
Orientation Classes: MVH RN orientation as well as Neonatal Critical Care classes (approximately 32 hour didactic).
Experience/Certifications: The NICU follows the guidelines of national, state, and local regulatory bodies. Standards of practice are consistent with Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN), National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN), and other standards for neonatal practice.
Dress Code: Professional scrubs. Details upon hire.
Unique Features: We offer a 20 week internship in collaboration with our Center of Nursing Excellence. We also offer a 18 week NICU residency program. Orientation varies based upon needs on hire. We have a unit-based educator and leadership model to support development.
