Neuroscience Patient Care
Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) nurses assigned to MVH Neuroscience Patient Care will work with and support patients with neurological disease including cerebrovascular accident (CVA), transient ischemic attack (TIA), spinal cord injury (SCI), and trauma patients.
MVH Neuroscience Patient Care Details
Number of Beds: 42.
Shift options: Nurses: 7a.m. to 7p.m., 7p.m. to 7a.m., and 11a.m. to 11p.m.
Patient care technician (PCTs): 7a.m. to 7p.m. and 7p.m. to 7a.m.
Orientation Classes: Electrocardiogram (EKG) class. Unit based orientation varies based on needs. Advanced Care classes are scheduled within 6-9 months. Disease Management classes are offered within 1st and 2nd year. Unit has a two year education plan for nurses for certification in neuroscience nursing.
Trauma and Neuro internships are also available.
Experience/Certifications: Each nurse must be NIH stroke certified by the end of orientation. Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) preferred within first year of hire. Certified neuroscience rehabilitation nurse (CNRN) preferred within three years of hire.
Dress Code: Professional scrubs. Details upon hire.
Unique Features: We offer a 20 week Neuroscience Residency program for new graduates which includes: focused orientation for neuroscience patients in a variety of care settings, ACLS, electrocardiogram (EKG) class, disease management classes, along with time spent with a neurologist, neurosurgeon and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Orientation varies based on needs upon hire. You will attend an EKG class. We have unit-based educators and associate nurse managers on both shifts to support your development.
