Admissions and Orders in Epic
Epic features Navigators that serve as a guide to direct you through workflow associated with direct admits, ED to IP admits and transfers:
Direct Admit Navigator is a predetermined set of sections designed to follow a provider’s workflow for admitting a patient directly to a unit/floor within the hospital. There are three components to this Navigator:
ED to IP Admit Navigator is a predetermined set of sections designed specifically to follow a provider’s workflow for a patient being admitted into the hospital after presenting in the ED.
Transfer Navigator is a predetermined set of sections that is specifically designed for the transfer workflow. This navigator allows the provider to view patient information, initiate the patient’s transfer and manage the patient’s orders.
Epic has two types of orders: Medications and Procedures.
Any time a medication is involved, the order is considered a “medication” order. Everything else is considered a “procedure” order. Procedure orders consist of labs, imaging, diets, consults/referrals, procedures, equipment, nursing and more.
