Meet the Sports Medicine Team at University of DaytonOff Site Icon.

Mike Barrow, MD

Barrow HSDr. Mike Barrow is a sports medicine physician at Premier Health Family Care - North. He is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and is board certified in Family Practice and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Barrow received the Public Health Award from the American Academy of Family Physicians and served as an attending physician for the Sports Medicine Clinic, United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dr. Barrow serves as the Assistant Team Physician for the University of Dayton Women’s basketball team. He is the team physician for the Northmont City Schools in Dayton. Dr. Barrow received the High School Team Physician of the Year Award from the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association in 2004.

Sean R. Convery, MD

Convery HSSean R. Convery, MD serves as the medical director for Premier Sports Medicine and for Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center. Dr. Convery attended medical school at Wright State University and completed his internship and residency at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Dr. Convery is board-certified by the American Board of Family Practice with a certificate of added qualifications in Sports Medicine. He is a member of the Miami Valley Academy of Family Practice, the Montgomery County Medical Society, the Ohio State Medical Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, and a charter member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Convery is an Associate Clinical Professor within the Wright State University School of Medicine, Department of Family Practice. 

Dr. Convery is currently the Head Team Physician for the University of Dayton and was previously a team physician for Wright State University. He serves as a physician consultant for various Miami Valley area high schools and community athletic events.

Dr. Convery maintains office hours at Miami Valley Hospital South.

Mike Herbenick, MD

Hebernick HSMichael A. Herbenick, MD graduated from Wright State University School of Medicine in 2000. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Wright State University School of Medicine. Dr. Herbenick completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic. He is board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine.

Jeffrey A. James, DO

James HSJeffrey A. James, DO received his medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. Dr. James completed a Family Medicine residency at TriHealth Bethesda in 2015. Dr. James completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at TriHealth Bethesda in 2016. Dr. James is board certified in Family Medicine.

Dr. James is a Credentialed ImPACT® Consultant trained in treating concussions as well as administering and interpreting the ImPACT® test.

James Klosterman, MD

Dr. James Klosterman is the Orthopedic Consultant for Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center, Miami Valley Hospital North location.. He practices at Montgomery Orthopedic Surgeons, Inc. and specializes in sports-related injuries, shoulder reconstruction, complex knee reconstruction, and minimally invasive knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Klosterman is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a leader in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in the Dayton area and has a special interest in ACL injury prevention.

Dr. Klosterman serves as orthopedic consultant for the University of Dayton Women’s basketball team and for ten area high schools. Dr. Klosterman was named Physician of the Year by the Ohio Athletic Training Association in 2007.

Louis Rubino, MD

Rubino HSDr. Rubino is a graduate of Georgetown University Medical School. He did his orthopedic residency at Miami Valley Hospital and a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Virginia. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with a subspecialty certification in orthopedic sports medicine.

Dr. Rubino serves as director of resident education and as a team physician for Miami University Middletown, the University of Dayton Flyers and Springboro High School. 

Teresa Zryd, MD

Zyrd HS 2018Teresa W. Zryd, MD, MSPH, serves as the Chief Academic Officer and Vice President for Academic Affairs/Research at Premier Health. She was previously director of  the Wright State Family Medicine Residency, a position she held for over 14 years. A 1995 graduate of Wright State University School of Medicine, she now is an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine, and also holds a Masters of Public Health from Western Kentucky University. Dr. Zryd has served as chief medical consultant for the Dayton Public Schools for over 20 years, and former team physician for Fairborn City Schools. Her special interests include preventive medicine, school/public health and adolescent medicine.
